Genealogy Tips, The Family

Have you used the new FamilySearch.org lab resource?

OMG. I stumbled upon the familysearch.org lab resource by accident. I think. I am on the familysearch.org website several times per month looking for information, mostly searching historical records. I’ve pretty much seen them all, but I keep hoping there might be something new. Well, a couple weeks ago I clicked on a link on the familysearch site and was taken to the Family Search Lab site. What a great resource! Within 15 minutes I was able to locate land deeds for my family I had never seen before. I was almost overwhelmed with the amount of information I found and had to take a week to process and document the details the information added to my research.

The site does have a disclaimer that the site is experimental and support is limited. I used the “Expand your search with full text” area and by adding a surname, dates, location, and a keyword and multiple documents were presented to my review. The algorithm now scans deeds for key words which eliminates the monotonous process of looking through hundreds of documents for family names.

I gave feedback that I loved what they were doing and encouragement to keep it up. I encourage you to check it out too. Here’s the link:  https://www.familysearch.org/en/labs/

Happy researching!
